Construction (1758-1790): Built under King Louis XV as a church dedicated to Saint Genevieve, the patron saint of Paris, the Panthéon's design pays homage to the Roman Pantheon, incorporating majestic Neoclassical features.
- A National Treasure: Today, the Panthéon stands as a national monument, a beacon of history and artistry that continues to captivate visitors from around the world.
- Architectural Marvel: A rectangular base adorned with an impressive dome dominates the skyline. The facade boasts a symphony of columns, pilasters, and sculptures, while the interior mirrors this grandeur with a vast nave, serene chapels, and a hallowed crypt.
- A Tumultuous Past: The Panthéon's history reflects the ever-changing tides of France. Originally intended as a church, it was transformed into a mausoleum for national heroes during the French Revolution. The pendulum of purpose swung once more, returning the Panthéon to a place of worship before its final secularization in the 19th century.
- A Sanctuary for Heroes: Descending into the crypt, visitors encounter the final resting place of luminaries who shaped France's destiny. Among them lie Voltaire, Rousseau, Victor Hugo, Marie Curie, and Alexandre Dumas, their tombs serving as constant reminders of France's rich intellectual and artistic heritage.
